An exhibition of art highlighting early disease diagnosis and patient self-advocacy

Join us for a reception at the Flinn Foundation introducing a unique art exhibit and collaboration between literary and visual artists, past and current patients, and one of our state's most impactful bioscience companies.

This Uncommon Knowledge exhibition, created collectively by the Southern Arizona Arts & Cultural Alliance (SAACA) and Roche Tissue Diagnostics (RTD), focuses on understanding the value of regular disease screenings and their associated diagnostic tests as well as the importance of advocating for yourself when something does not seem not quite right.

SAACA and RTD have generously shared with the Flinn Foundation select works from a larger exhibition that presented 21 patient stories—all Roche colleagues—as interpreted by more than a dozen regional artists.

The evening's program will include:

• Light hors d'oeuvres and refreshments;
• Live music performances;
• Live original poetry and songs performed by featured Arizona artists Ashanti Files, Ash Hooke, Hudson Keffer, and Erika Segura.

Featured visual and literary artists whose works are part of the exhibit include: Ashanti Files, Rebecca Ganz, Ash Hooke, Hudson Keffer, Carla Lobmier, David Navarro, Angela Puffer, Erika Segura, Carrington Shearer, Eve Stern, Beth Surdut, Laura Thurbon, Elaine Walsh, Dennis Wunsch.

The exhibition highlights the journeys of Roche staff across the United States who have experienced a disease diagnosis that impacted their lives. It aims to change how we take notice of and manage our health through a deeply personal look at those important choices that led to distinct health outcomes.

The patient stories and their accompanying creative representations span several disease states including, but not limited to, breast, colon, prostate and thyroid cancer, acute myeloid leukemia, human papillomavirus (HPV), long covid, latent autoimmune diabetes (LADA), pernicious anemia, and postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS).
